State Climate Resilience Improvement Plan (SCRIPT)
Challenge
Natural events such as floods and fires were unpredictable and had the potential to cause extensive damage to the transportation system. These climate events are more extreme and frequent than in the past and they are costly to address.
Solution
A methodology has been developed to identify potential climate impacts to the transportation system and to prioritize climate adaptation projects. This allows Caltrans to prevent some climate impacts and to know where to spend limited funds first. The SCRIPT memorializes this work and provides the potential for federal funds to support it.
Result
Allows Caltrans to identify and prioritize climate adaptation projects
Allows California's climate adaptation projects to be prioritized for federal funding and to have a lower non-federal cost share
Addresses one of the main risks to assets identified in the Transportation Asset Management Plan
Helps Caltrans build a resilient system
