Reducing the Unnecessary - Transportation Generated CO2 and Traffic by Using AI

Challenge  

The ramp metering discharge rates are preprogrammed and they lead to everyday congestion that we experience.  

Solution  

The solution is to use AI to allow for traffic to flow smoothly without the stop and go. Utilizing AI, ramp metering discharge rates are computed by artificial intelligence and sent to the controller every thirty second to controller at the ramp.  

Result  

• Save time

• Increase productivity

• Save gas

• Reduce congestion

• Improve mobility and reduce pollution and CO2  

• All discharge rates are tried in the freeway model and the best solution is filtered out to be sent to the controller  

• Caltrans Freeway Model is based on solid mathematical foundation verified by Artificial Intelligence (AI)
