Progressive Design Build - Alternative Delivery Method and Asset Management

Challenge 

With the influx of fund and tight schedule, Caltrans needed additional delivery tools beside Design-Bid-Build, Construction Manager/General Contractor and Design-Build in delivering project to meet the project commitment.  

Solution  

Progressive Design-Build is an innovative delivery tool to meet the challenging delivery commitments. It is a hybrid of Construction Manager/General Contractor, Design-Build and Architecture Engineering contracts in to a single delivery method. It will provide the technical resources in design phase, the negotiated fair and reasonable construction contract with an off-ramp option, the shared risks, the early permitting agencies and external partners engagement and develop innovations during design. 

Result

• Provide the technical resources for challenging projects

• Engage permitting agencies and external partners early  

• Accelerate delivery schedule by using early work package  

• Negotiate fair and reasonable construction contract with an off-ramp option  

• Identify, mitigate and share risks with Progressive Design-Builder
