ProDMS - Project Data Management System for Project Delivery and Asset Management

Challenge  

Many Caltrans processes are still paper-based and those that are computerized are stored in siloed databases. This makes the processes more costly to perform while also making it difficult to use the information for intelligent decision making.  

Solution  

ProDMS is a web-based electronic application to update the current paper-based processes in construction contract administration and integrate siloed information across Project Delivery to improve efficiency in delivering projects by streamlining workflows and improving data driven decisions enterprise-wide. The system has been rolled out state-wide and will be used by over 2,000 staff daily as new construction projects are added to the system. District 4 already uses ProDMS on all new construction projects.  

Result  

• Eliminates paper-based inefficiencies  

• Improves data consistency and integration  

• improves centralized construction field staff assignments  

• Increases state-wide electronic collection and management of data increases monitoring and reporting   

• Increases the chance of meeting the Caltrans efficiency goals by reducing unnecessary travel and providing mobile-ready tools for collecting daily report data at job sites
